Our Approach

Caregivers are active partners in treatment at Side by Side ABA Therapy. Families participate in goal selection, receive caregiver training in the strategies used during sessions, and review progress data with the supervising BCBA. Caregivers are welcome to observe sessions at any time. Caregiver involvement supports the generalization and maintenance of skills in the home and community.

Transition planning begins at the outset of services. Initial treatment plans define measurable criteria for success and describe how services are expected to change as goals are achieved, including reduction of service hours, transition to school-based supports, or discharge from ABA services.

Professional Standards and Evidence

  • In a randomized clinical trial of 180 young children with autism, Bearss et al. (2015) found that a structured parent training program produced significantly greater reductions in disruptive behavior than a parent education program.
  • A Cochrane systematic review of parent-mediated early intervention (Oono et al., 2013) found evidence of benefits, including improved parent–child interaction, and identified the need for further high-quality research.
  • The BACB Ethics Code requires behavior analysts to involve clients and relevant stakeholders throughout service delivery (Standard 2.09) and to provide written plans for service transition and discontinuation (Standards 3.15 and 3.16).
